This October I went to the South of France to get some late autumn sun. The South is a great place to visit at this time of year. The cities and villages along the south coast are very popular throughout the summer months into August (which is when many French people take their holiday). This makes these places very busy, pushing up hospitality prices a lot. During October, however, the crowds disappear, the prices drop, and the weather falls to a very pleasant 24 degrees. This means that an October visit enabled me to find great hotel and car rental deals, and enjoy peaceful beaches and restaurant terraces.
My South coast trip began at the glitzy City of Cannes, where I stayed for a number of days. I chose the Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic which is a 5-star hotel just next to the sea and in the centre of the action. It is usually a favourite haunt for film stars, but in October, it is simply a peaceful retreat, with 4-star prices.
Inside, the rooms are luxurious but feel homely and welcoming, whilst the staff are extremely friendly and accommodating.
The rooms are spacious and the bed was extremely conformable.
A little habit of mine is to take a bath bomb with me each time that I travel. This makes bathing even more enjoyable. The bath in this hotel was spacious, and I could fully stretch out.
I loved the fact that the hotel leaves chocolates on your pillow in the afternoon. This was perfect for my night cravings!
The breakfast was truly spectacular with a great selection of cooked food, pastries, fresh juices, fruit, chocolate, and everything you could want and more!
After Cannes, I continued on a little road trip, heading West along the coast to St Tropez and beyond.
I encourage you to visit the south of France all year around. It’s amazing!
